Alexander the Great and the Deluded Skopians

Skopjans Identity Crisis started when Tito of Yugoslavia aspired to extend his communist control over northern Hellas (Greece) to a sea exit on the warm waters of the Aegean Sea, also to share that sea exit with the fellow-communist regimes of the Communist International Commintern during the post-2WW East-West cold war hostilities. As the Yugoslav Socialist Republic of Vardaria-Banovina bordered on the historical Macedonia of the Hellenes, Tito transformed Vardaria to a Yugoslav Macedonia and pressed for integration of all parts, including Macedonia Aegeanska (i.e., ours of Northern Hellas), and Macedonia Pirrin of Bulgaria, to form a greater Macedonia communist country: that being a strategic plan of communist access-expansion into the Aegean and the Mediterranean Seas.

To contend that their history dates back to the times of the Macedonian dynasty, Skopjan Slavs are committing historical frauds. History records their advent in that region many centuries after Christ: never before. To overcome this historical revelation they further contend that their non-Slavic Macedonian nation had been there and that in the course of history they had lost their being, somehow they were Slavicised and lately re-emerged Macedonian contenders. But history does not hold any other Homeric account of any Odyssey of Skopjo-Macedonians -- a likely fairytale. On the contrary, there are Hellenic evidences in every stage of history. Please read Hellenic Evidence further down below.

Instantly under their fanciful name, their education was directed to superficially create the original Macedonian nation by distorting world history -- altering their names from Bulgaric terminations of ev or eff as in Ivanov, Ivanoff or Fadeyeff to the non-Bulgaric vic as in Ivanovic -- to differentiate from their Bulgarian kin-people and thus pretending they are restoring their long lost nationality. Recently they are replacing the Cyrillic characters with their newly invented A-be-ce-dar, thus to cease using the Cyrillic and (Hellenic term) Alphabet. A wanton nation-making process like the Hebrews applied for establishing their nation of Israel from a variety of Jewish

N.B. Saints Kyrillos and Methodios were missionaries from Byzantine Macedonia who brought Christ to the Slavs. They also devised the Cyrillic alphabet; their scripture characters based on the Hellenic (and added some 16 more letters). Some years ago, in observance of this, EU proclaimed them Patron Saints of Europe.

All these actions during the "cold war" were overlooked by the Hellenes (the historically genuine Macedonians) for four decades, until the new generations of Vardarians grew up forty years brainwashed into believing they are the original Macedonians and that Hellenes had seized their history and distorted it. That Yugoslav micro-nation of less than 2 millions of mainly shepherds, tsombanos, got a jolt from nothingness to the lost glories of the Macedonian conquest and world grandeur, which their national destiny demands reclaiming; a veritable IDENTITY CRISIS. Crisis it is because the contending Macedonians are some half of its population and are Slavs who speak the west Bulgarian dialect, two fifths are Albanians (calling themselves llyrians), and the rest are a pan-spermia of Serbs, Bulgars, Bosnians, Vlachs, Gypsies-Romanies, some Hellenes, and immigrants from the Eastern block, Asia, Africa, etc.

Currently, ignoring the decencies of good neighbourhood, they pursue large scale projects, which seriously offend Hellenes, reportedly for:

b) to punish the Hellenes who stole their glorious achievements and distort their history.

Pertinently, Hellenes have a saying: “The donkey called the cockerel a . . . big-head.”

Having renamed theirs to Great Alexander Airport, Skopjans are further corrupting world

history. They are erecting statues of Great Alexander and renaming towns to Pella, Ptolemy, Cleopatra, and Alexandria, to superficially claim a dominating place in world history. One can imagine where this ridiculous comedy tends to end. One sure argument is that Skopjans are emboldened and receiving instructions from Zionist elements of the USA Administration, which are orchestrated by their world syndicates about what to do, thus to pursue more defiant falsehoods, purporting by persistent lies to eventually unseat the historical truths, in their favour.

Our valid reasons in alleging the latter, emanate from the extremely anti-Hellenic dogma of Henry Kissinger which, inter allia, includes, we must knock them hard at their history . . . to weaken them so as not to be able to resist, . . . etc.” In other words, they contrive to strip us from all our historical and cultural legacies.[Editorial remark: The issue at hand exposes the unfortunate and intractable stigma on U.S. dignity and prestige for being led and implicated in an activity ranked as repugnant and unacceptable by all cherished American standards and ideals].

We are witnessing this now being pursued in many anti-Hellenic hostilities, as follows:

1. Skopje, in the large scale distortion of our Macedonian legacies; and, coincidentally, the issue of new textbooks for distorting the Hellenic national history.

2. Turkey, in Constantinople, the annihilation of millions indigenous Hellenes and the harassment of the Ecumenical Patriarchate; the continued closure of the Orthodox Theological College; the disregard of the Ecumenical Patriarchate status in the world church; the confiscating of Patriarchal properties by the Turkish Department of

the Wakfs; and over the Hellenic Aegean islands; its aggressing air incursions.

3. Cyprus: USA, British, and other Westerns tolerating the continued 33 years old aggression of Turkey of the northern part the island republic (EU member country), and their silent propping up of the quisling regime; their dealings with the illegal: trade, refugees’ properties, institutions, and universities.

Nevertheless, concerning the Macedonian parody, there are serious faults on our Hellenes’ side, evolving over six decades, viz:

1. Hellas did not wake up to this affront, did not react, and not protested (partly because the NATO allies lulled her so as not to offend Tito who had downgraded his political ties with Moscow). This Hellenic mistake lasted over forty years after Tito and the communist Commintern (communist international) renamed the Yugoslav Vardarska Banovina to Republica Macedoniy, purporting a communist territorial expansion over the historically legitimate Makedonia of the Hellenes.

2. After Yugoslavia collapsed, Hellas agreed that the new state be admitted in the UNO under the provisional name of Former Yugoslav Republic Of Macedonia (its acronym FYROM). Hellas’ mistake was that the term Macedonia featured in the provisional name, which enabled FYROM to use this Macedonia feature as its constitutional name, and enabled many other countries -- for obtaining privileges and trade contracts in FYROM -- to rename it to Republic of Macedonia. Here again Hellas did not protest that this renaming was contrary to the UNO resolutions on the name dispute

3a. While Skopje established the term Macedonia solely as the constitutional name of its country, Athens kept the term only as the name of just a province: its historically legitimate Macedonia. Thus other countries or foreign enterprises would expediently recognise a country rather than a province of a similar name.

3b. AN INSTANT SOLUTION: The writer had foreseen this many years ago, and advised Hellenes to pull the rug from under the feet of the Skopjans, by constitutionally renaming their entire home-country to MACEDONIA, and officially declaring such in the UNO and all other forums. Thus, the covetous Skopjans would have had no ground to stand on ith their fanciful Republica Macedoniya.

3c It was a mistake for Hellenes not to grasp the gist of the aforesaid notion; they were skeptic fearing a likely loss of their greater identity; to allay such fears the term Hellas (Greece could be prefixed on all toponyms (place-names), e.g. Hellas-Thrace, Hellas-Attica, Hellas-Ipiros, Hellas-Delphi, Hellas-Thessaly, etc). But the entire world knows them with several identity names, viz.: Greeks, Romioe, Iones (Yunanis), Hellenes, Byzantines; and, who can take such identities away from them? Macedonians would then be an additional identity generally for all, yet veritable, as this historical legacy generally reflects on all Hellenes.

3d. Yet, while the name dispute is still unresolved, there is still time to make these bold moves. Since the expectation over decades is proven futile that Skopje and the UNO shall resolve this ridiculous dispute, Hellas must change over to the offensive by political faits accomplis. In view of all the unilateral actions and hostile propaganda by Skopje, there is nothing to hinder Hellas’ right to defend its Macedonian legacies by whatever politically pre-empting actions (however drastic).

To punish the Hellenes who stole their glorious achievements and distorted their history.

Who are they to do any punishing? But is it them or some foreign sinister influence in this anti-Hellenic hostility? Again, the finger points to the Zionist elements of the USA Administration, of the West, and to their accomplice syndicates.

Further-along, please read two versions of HIS [Alexander’s] world acclaimed OATH, in which he vividly implies his Greekness. He invokes no other ethnicity (neither Skopjan), but only the Hellenic (Greek).

There are numerous historically supporting instances for Hellenic Evidence, viz:

a) None of the nations which have welcomed Alexander as liberator has recorded anything contrary to his Macedonian Greekness.

b) He started the Hellenistic era all over the then known world, during which Christ was born, taught, died on the cross, and rose. Nothing like Slavic or Skopjan, as is historically proven that the latter did not appear anywhere near until many centuries after

c) The Septuagint Old Testament is translated by Hebrew theologians, under the auspices of Ptolemy in Alexandria Egypt, to Hellenic; which was the predominant culture and language of the then Hellenistic world of Alexander and his successors. Here again, why was it not in Slavic or Skopjan?

d) All names current to the history of that time, of persons, of places, [of tombs], of civilization and sciences, of Europe generally, even of Slavs, of thereafter to-date, do convincingly reflect Hellenistic etymologies -- definitely not Skopjan: where have they been?

e) Great Alexander’s own oath is universally acclaimed as the pre-Christ oath of a Christian who testifies about God as the father of all (not of several quarrelling gods), and the first Hellenic prologue to Universal Human Rights: Outlined below are two quotations of the Oath, downloaded from two electronic sources, which convincingly indicates the Greekness of his Macedonian ethnicity.

SEE THE WHOLE WORLD AS YOUR HOMELAND, WITH LAWS COMMON TO ALL, WHERE THE BEST WILL GOVERN REGARDLESS OF THEIR RACE. UNLIKE THE NARROW MINDED, I MAKE NO DISTINCTION BETWEEN GREEKS AND BARBARIANS. THE ORIGIN OF CITIZENS, OR THE RACE INTO WHICH THEY WERE BORN, IS OF NO CONCERN TO ME. I HAVE ONLY ONE CRITERION BY WHICH TO DISTINGUISH THEM VIRTUE.

"FOR ME, ANY GOOD FOREIGNER IS A GREEK AND ANY BAD GREEK IS WORSE THAN A BARBARIAN. IF DISPUTES EVER OCCUR AMONG YOU, YOU WILL NOT RESORT TO WEAPONS BUT WILL SOLVE THEM IN PEACE. IF NEED BE, I SHALL ARBITRATE BETWEEN YOU. SEE GOD NOT AS AN AUTOCRATIC DESPOT, BUT AS THE COMMON FATHER OF ALL AND THUS YOUR CONDUCT WILL BE LIKE THE LIVES OF BROTHERS WITHIN THE SAME FAMILY. I, ON MY PART, SEE YOU ALL AS EQUAL, WHETHER YOU ARE WHITE OR DARK-SKINNED. AND I SHOULD LIKE YOU NOT SIMPLY TO BE SUBJECTS OF MY COMMONWEALTH, BUT MEMBERS OF IT, PARTNERS OF IT. TO THE BEST OF MY ABILITY, I SHALL STRIVE TO DO WHAT I HAVE PROMISED. KEEP AS A SYMBOL OF LOVE THIS OATH WHICH WE HAVE TAKEN TONIGHT WITH OUR LIBATIONS."

See the whole world as your homeland, with laws common to all, where the best will govern regardless of their race. Unlike the narrow minded, I make no distinction between Greeks and barbarians. The origin of citizens, or the race into which they were born, is of no concern to me. I have only one criterion by which to distinguish them virtue.

For me, any good foreigner is a Greek and any bad Greek is worse than a barbarian. If disputes ever occur among you, you will not resort to weapons but will solve them in peace. If need be, I shall arbitrate between yon. See god not as an autocratic despot, but as the common father of all and thus your conduct will be like the lives of brothers within the same family. I, on my part, see you all as equal, whether you are white or dark skinned, and I should like you not simply to be subjects of my commonwealth, but members of it, partners of it. To the best of my ability, I shall strive to do what I have promised. Keep as the symbol of love this oath which we have taken tonight with our libations.”

It should be very difficult for at least every clear-thinking American to comprehend how the
United States of America has been allowed to be led into and implicated in such a self-degrading ploy.

The document of the U.S. State Department is included in the book of
Minister Nik. Martis of Northern Greece, Macedonia-Thrace,

The Secretary of State to Certain Diplomatic and Consular Officers*

        The following is for your information and general guidance, but not for any positive action at this time.

        The Department has noted with considerable apprehension increasing propaganda rumors and semi-official statements in favor of an autonomous Macedonia ,emanating principally from Bulgaria, but also from Yugoslav Partisan and other sources ,with the implication that Greek territory would be included in the projected state. ”This Government considers talk of Macedonian “nation”, Macedonian “Fatherland”, or Macedonian “national consciousness “to be unjustified demagoguery representing no ethnic nor political reality and sees in its present revival a possible cloak for aggressive intentions against Greece.”

        The approved policy of this Government is to oppose any revival of the Macedonian issue as related to Greece. The Greek section of Macedonia is largely inhabited by Greeks and the Greek people are almost unanimously opposed to the creation of a Macedonian state. Allegations of serious Greek participation in any such agitation can be assumed to be false. This Government would regard as responsible any Government or group of Governments tolerating or encouraging menacing or aggressive acts of “Macedonian Forces” against Greece.

        The department would appreciate any information pertinent to this subject which may come to your attention.

REASONS WHY SKOPJE, THE SOUTHERNMOST FORMER YUGOSLAV
REPUBLIC (FYROM) SHOULD NOT USE THE NAMES "MACEDONIA" AND MACEDONIAN TO DEFINE ITSELF AS AN INDEPENDENT STATE AND AS NATIONALITY

INTRODUCTION

Ιt is common knowledge the persistent attempts of Skopje, the Southernmost Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, to impose on the international community, particularly on Greece, the historic Greek names "Macedonia" and "Macedonian", for their state and national identification
This insolent usurpation of the identity of Macedonians, which is also identity of Greeks, besides the Greek character of the Name, the Language, History and Civilization of Macedonia does not surprise us since it has been a conflicting one for 61 years. However what has taken us by surprise is the recent recognition of the State of Skopje by the USA under this Greek name.
This recognition is unwise and offensive, at the expense of the Greek interests, and in any case inconsistent with the USA policy in the past.
Undeniable facts prove that the renaming of Southern Serbia to Macedonia by TITO, in concert with STALIN, served two objectives : The first one was the weakening of Serbia and the second and most important one the segregation of the northern Greek province of Macedonia in order to have access to the Aegean Sea by gaining control over the port of Thessalonici ; further to the creation of the Aegean Pseudomacedonia.
It seems that the USA diversified from the position they held in the past.
Specifically the USA made a stand against this action taken by Tito and responded promptly by circular No 868014/26-12-44, issued by Roosvelt's Secretary of State, Edward R. Stetinius Jr, who declared the following : "This government considers that any mention to "Macedonian Nation", "Macedonian Fatherland" or "Macedonian Identity" is unjustified and demagogic; it does not represent national of political reality perceiving it, in its present resurgence, as a probable cover for offensive actions against Greece. The official policy of this government is to take the necessary steps against those who will aid Yugoslavia or Bulgaria to raise the "Macedonian Question" at the exprense of Greece".
This policy was reinforced by the subsequent USA Presidents as well as the legislative bodies (the Congress and the Senate).
The above mentioned declaration was proved prophetic granted that Tito and Stalin attempted an attack upon Greece to which the USA reacted in 1947 by adopting the Truman Doctrine and aid programs to Greece in order to protect its territorial integrity from communist rule. The above mentioned attitude/stand was supported among other by United Nations, the Pope John Paul and Stalin and Dimitrof's confessions.
Further down we will repeat, briefly, the most significant reasons that do not permit the use of the names "Macedonia" and "Macedonian" by this new State :

No state, which is part of a geographical region, has the right to define itself arbitrarily, in an official manner as representing the whole region.
Since there is no Macedonian race no ethnic or political reality can be represented as these names are clearly Greek in origin. The use of these names in ancient time for definions such as the Kingdom of Macedonia of Philip II or Alexander the Great, or the Macedonians denoted a region not a nationality. Macedonians, such as Athenians, Spartans, Cypriots, were all Greeks.
It might initiate territorial claims against neighboring countries as it has happened many times up to now. A clear proof of their intentions is the provocative action in 1992, to adopt the Greek Star of Vergina in their flag. In the following map, which was published by the Skopje Officials in 1992, recerculated several times and included in schoolbooks, recently, their intentions are obvious.

There is no homogeneity in the population of the new State. According to an article in the Christian Science Monitor, on October 28, 1992, page 19, by Mr C.M. Woodhouse, a remarkable historian and former member of Parliament, who served Britain in Greece during and after W.W.II, the population is composed of 40-45 Slavs, 30% Albanians, 10% Greeks and 10% Gypsies and others.
Anyone can realize the falsification of the history of Macedonia in the following false arguments, originated by the Skopje officials in order to defend their attempts to impose the use of the names Macedonia and Macedonian, which support the view that:
- The Macedonians are not Greeks but form a separate nation.
- Their language is not the Greek one, but the idiom spoken around the Skopje area.
- Macedonia extends much farther towards the north than the borders of historical Macedonia, in such a way as to include actual slavic regions that have never been parts of Macedonia in antiquity which were actually parts of ancient Derdania.
- The ancient Macedonians were not Greeks but a separate nation related to the Illyrians and Thracians.
- The Slavs descending to the Balkans and Macedonia, during the 6th and 7th centuries A.D. were amalgated with the "non Greek" ancient Macedonians and thus created a new nation the Slavo-Macedonians.
- The descendants of these Slavo-Macedonians of the Middle ages are today's Macedonians of Skopje.
- In Bulgaria and Greece there are inhabitants who belong to the "Macedonian nation" forming oppressed minorities whose rights must be recognized.
- Everything called "Macedonian" - manners, customs, culture etc - is not Greek, but a creation of the so called Macedonians of Skopje.

All these arguments cannot stand up to criticism as they are highly questionable in terms of historical, ethnological, cultural and sociological criteria.

The arguments against the use of the names "Macedonia" and "Macedonian" are substantial and when compared with the arguments of the Skopje Officials are overwhelming and determinative.

The invented claims of Skopjan origin are continuously proclaimed by the Skopje officials not only as a federal State but also and more persistently, now that is independent States. Though they cannot withstand even the most elementary criticism as they are untruthful and unjustified, the following evidence, will prove that the opposing arguments are substantially overwhelming and determinative.
Macedonia itself, with its milleniums of glory, does not allow the alteration of its history. Only the names of Aristotle and Alexander the Great and their contribution to the history of mankind, the first with his wisdom, the latter with his valor, politics and magnanimity, should have been enough to awaken all those who try to falsify its history.
Macedonia has always been the most advanced part and bastion of Greece.
All historical authorities agree that the geographical boundaries of ancient Macedonia were the following :

Aegean Sea and Kamvounia, Pierian and Olymbus mountains southwards.
Ochris and Prespa Lakes and Vamvouna, Skomio and Rodhopi mountains northwards.
Nestos river eastward and
Grammos and Pindus mountains westwards.

The inhabitants of this region, the Macedonians, belonged to one of the older Greek tribes: Their closer relatives were Thessalians, specifically Magnisians with whom the shared their Aeolian origin. The language they spoke was one of the older dilects of Greek language with a lot in common with Aeolian, Arcadian, Cyprian and Mycenian dilects.
Τhe Old Testament, the ancient authors, contemporary researchers, innumerable inscriptions on statues, graves and steles with Greek names and votive offerings, thousands of coins, not only in Macedonia but in the rest of Greece as well as in Libya, Egypt and Asia as far as India, categorically confirm that Macedonians as Greeks had the same gods and religious worship and that the Macedonians disseminated their language that is Greek, and the spirit of Greece all over the world of that time.
As all these evidences are innumerable only a few will be presented.
The Old Testament contains irrefutable and cogent textual evidences. In one of them, Prophet Daniel, about 200 years before the birth of Alexander the Great, predicted that "The King of the Medes and the Persians will be vanquished by a Greek King and that this first and great king will be succeeded by four kings from the same Kingdom".
The Ancient authors and historians are also giving innumerable evidence.
The first historical accounts are given by Homer who mentions in the Iliad the names of various Pelasgian and Greek tribe that lived in Macedonia.
Stravon says, "of course Macedonia is a part of Greece".
Herodotous writes : "The descendants of Perdicas, the first king of Macedonians, are Greeks, as they themselves desire, and as I know myself".
Thucydides mentions that the Macedonians are composed of various Greek tribes under different kings.
Polybius says : "What and how much honour do Macedonians deserve who for the greatest part of their lives never ceased fighting against barbarians for the safety of Greeks".
Arian, in his book "Anabasis of Alexander" mentions that Alexander the Great, after the victorious battle of Granicus acted as follows : "He sent to Athens, the foremost city of Greeks, and not to Pella, which was the capital of Macedonia, three hundred panoplies and other Persian spoils as a votive offering to Athina with the inscription : "Alexander, son of Philippos and the Greeks, with the exception of Lacedaemonians, offer these spoils from the Barbarians dwelling in Asia".
He also says that 2000 Greek mercenaries of the Persians, who were taken prisoners he sent them captive to Macedonia to work there as slaves: because though being Greeks they fought against Greece in favor of the barbarians.
Pausanias confirms that Macedonians were members of the Delphic Amphictiony by saying "In my time Amphictyons were thirty. The regions of Nicopolis, Macedonia and Thessaly, each sent six representatives" and as it is well known only Greeks were members of Amphictionies. He also proves that Macedonians participated in the Olympic Games, where only Greeks could take part, with many participants and winners.
Johann Gustav Droysen - among other scholars - points out in his History of Alexander the Great, "both Philip and Alexander disseminated to the people of Asia not the Macedononian culture, which was never independent, but the Greek culture".

When maps Reveal the Truth

The attempts made by Skopje to provide evidence for their allegations by using faulse maps did not work. No matter how hard one may try, there are no maps anywhere in the world edited before 1944, which quote the word "Macedonia" for any other country or region except for Greece. In 1944, the first maps edited by the Yugoslavs named Southern Serbia the "Socialist Republic of Macedonia". This map was later reprinted with the words "Socialist Republic of» being omitted, and the word "Macedonia" being deleted from Greece : Hense people using the maps would form the opinion that "Macedonia" lays only within Yugoslavia and that therefore there is a "Macedonian nation" which of course has its own language.
The arguments advanced by the Skopjians in favour of their allegations about the existence of "Macedonian Nation" are demolished in the following ethnographic and historical maps :

The historical map of Greece published at Baltimore by E.Z. Coal in 1824, where in the legend the publisher described Macedonia as part of mainland Greece and marks its northern border as lying beyond the town of Monastir.
The ethnographic map of Balkans published at Paris in 1878 which shows the majority of the Greek population with no sign of the so-called Macedonians.

None of these maps, or any other edited before the second World War, makes any reference to a separate "Macedonian nation" for the simple reason that no such a nation existed before TITO invented it.

There is no Macedonian Language

The attempts made by Skopians to provide evidences that the so called "Macedonian language" is the idiom spoken around Skopje can hardly persuade anyone. Their language, with the self-contained Slav tongue, was completely unknown until 1944 and no matter how hard one may try will find nothing to prove its existence. The language used by the Slav speaking inhabitants of the Southern Yugoslavia and southwestern Bulgaria was known to be a dilect of the Bulgarian language.
After the foundation of the Socialist Republic of Macedonia, for obvious political reasons an army of philologists and scholars was employed to create a separate written language.
Taking a Bulgarian dilect as starting point and enhancing it widely from Greek, Serbian, Russian and other Slav languages, a "literary language", the so called "Macedonian language" was created and recognized by the Yugoslav Constitution as one of the country's three official languages. The fact that there is not even one text, not one inscription, in this language before 1944 proves without doubt that this language has nothing to do with the ancient Macedonians and their descendants who always spoke Greek.
The fact that the Macedonians spoke the same language as the other Greeks can also be seen in the work by the Roman historian Livy, who mentions that in the assembly of Greeks in Aetolia in 200 BC were representatives of Aetolians, Acarnanians and Macedonians all of whom spoke the same language.

Facts that do not justify ignorance

Beyond the evidence there exist facts that do not justify ignorance and do not permit the minister preparation of Macedonian history. The most significant of these are the following :

There is no official text of either the recent or the more distant past in which mention is made of "Macedonia" or "Macedonians". Neither the Treaty of Berlin, nor the Treaty of San Stefano makes any reference to such concepts. The official Turkish census of 1905 gives figures for the populations of the geographical area of Macedonia, divided into the vilaets of Thessaloniki and Monastir and shows great majority of the Greeks while makes no reference to "Macedonians" for the simple reason that none of those questioned stated so.
One fact accepted by the Slav historians is that the establishment of the Slavs in the Balkans took place in the 6th century AD and that their cultural history begins during the 10th century AD. Founders of the cultural history of the Slavs, are the two Greek monks from Thessaloniki, Cyril and Methodius who during the 9th century setting off Macedonia as the starting point taught to the Slavs the Greek-based Cyrillic script and the Christian faith of the Greek Orthodox Church. So the first fundamental sources of their cultural life and history are Byzantine Greek.
This fact alone should deprive the Slavs from any historical link with Balkans before the 6th century and any cultural link before the 10th century AD. The theory of the Skopians that Cyril and Methodius were Macedonian Slavs "was rejected by Pope John Paul II, who on December 31st 1980 addressing the entire catholic church proclaimed Cyril and Methodius protectors of Europe, calling them "Brothet Greeks". It is well known that :
- Old Testament was first translated into Greek.
- The three Gospels and the Acts of the Apostles were written in Greek, while the Gospel of Mathew was translated into Greek from Aramaic at an early date.
- Apostle Paul, who spoke Greek, not only visited first and started his apostolic mission in Europe from Macedonia, but also wrote his divinely inspired epistles in Greek. Ever since the first century A.C. his epistles to the Philippians, that is the Greek inhabitants of Philippi and to Thessalonians, have been continuously read in the entire Christian world.
Holzner in his book on Paul writes : "Once out of Macedonia came the young hero (Alexander) with his 22 years and brought the gifts of the West, the Greek tongue and philosophy to the East. Now the West demanded the most beautiful gift of the East, the teaching of Nazarene.....".

All the above prove that Christianity used the Greek language as its transmitting medium, which had become universal through Alexander and his successors, in order to be understood by the various nations.
The history and the cultural inheritance of Macedonia as "Hellenistic era" had a great influence on the humanity history.
As it is mentioned in a 1955 special study by the Institute of Foreign Affairs and the LUND University of Sweden, the history of Macedonia is not the history of the Greeks alone but of all Europeans, taking into consideration that the Macedonians disseminated the Greek civilization to Europe and all over the world.

The EU Stand

The European Union in December 1991 and June 1992 included in the prerequisites for the recognition of the new State of Skopje the prohibition of the term "Macedonia" as an official name for the new State.

EPILOGUE

Consequently it is unjustifiable and should not be permitted the usage by the Skopjans of the name "Macedonia" not even in a composite name, for their state and national determination. Also, it should not be permitted the deliberate ignorance or overlooking of historical reality by third countries - big or small, powerful or not - in furtherance of their interests.
We could back down from a claim if we were presented with some record, written or not of any other evidence dated prior to 1944 which is not of Greek origin.
